HT plays Santa Claus to Biriyaniwala Majid Khan - India’s answer to Pakistan’s Chaiwala
If Pakistan has Chaiwala Arshad Khan, India has Biriyaniwala Majid Khan.
The stunningly handsome Arshan Khan was discovered serving tea in Islamabad by a photographer. He went viral winning a worldwide fan base and transformed overnight into a model.
A story similar to that is waiting to explode from East Delhi.
Majid Khan works at an eatery there and is as smouldering as the biriyani he serves.
He has the looks, height, physique and the soulful gravitas you may associate with elite models.
And he is as poor as Arshad Khan. A recent migrant from Haldwani he slogs at the eatery to earn Rs 7,000 a month and lives in a slum.
And they call him Chotu.
But that is about to change.
The Hindustan Times Lifestyle editor Shara Ashraf discovered him and decided to throw the weight of the media behemoth behind him.
Now that makes Majid Khan, imagine, an Arshad Khan on steroids.
With expert help Majid Khan had a makeover, personal styling and designer clothes included. Though shy and hesitant, he quickly learnt to pose like a pro.
The Hindustan Times website ran a photo feature on him and plans more exposure in its New Year fashion special.
