BJP MP Manoj Tiwari has been caught on camera making fun of people standing in queues to draw money after demonetisation.

Manoj Tiwari is also the head of Delhi state unit of the party.

A video clip shared by Delhi Darpan TV, shows Manoj Tiwari sitting with a few BJP leaders at a New Year’s get together organised by Leader of the Opposition Vijender Gupta at his residence on Monday.

He is seen entertaining guests singing songs on the plight of people standing in queues.

In a jovial manner, Manoj Tiwari narrates an incident which occurred when he went to meet people standing in a queue.

“Mein gaya tha, ab socha kya bolu jisse log khush honge (I saw people standing in long queues and thought what do I say to make them happy).”

So, he said he sang a song: Desh bhakt hain katar mein. Lagi hain bhari bhir. Taqlifon se saj rahin, Bharat ki taqdeer (Patriots are standing in queues. There’s a huge crowd. India’s destiny is being created by people’s pain).

He claimed that people told him in response, “Hum lagen rahenge tees tak aur baad mein behi (We’ll stand in the queues even after December 30).”

Perhaps more damaging for BJP, the video shows several  of its well-recognised leaders enjoying the joke with a hearty laughter.

Manoj Tiwari’s anecdote flies against the anger he had personally faced last month at an ATM in his constituency New Delhi  As soon as people in the queue spotted him, they began shouting slogans against him and Modi for demonetisation, NewsCrunch had noted.

The video clip went viral on late Monday evening provoking anger on social media, with many calling his behaviour shameful and disgusting.

When Asian Age contacted him over the phone, Manoj Tiwari maintained that he had done no wrong.

“I called them patriots. Look at the video, I have done no wrong,” he added.

After taking over as BJP Delhi unit president Manoj Tiwari had announced a plan to distribute laddoos to people standing in queues. The plan was reportedly called off by party higher ups.
