The deceased have been identified as Sanyam Arora, 20, Gaurish Verma, 21, Rishika Bassi, 19, and Ishani Jindal, 19,

They were studying in different colleges of Ludhiana, Mandi Gobindgarh and Delhi and had gone out to celebrate in the new car that Gaurish Verma, a BTech third-year student, had purchased.

The Times of India quoted eyewitnesses, who said the youth bought beer from a liquor shop near Birmi bridge of Sidhwan Canal and danced there drinking it.

As a few local residents objected to it, they left the spot and drove away.

The Tribune reports that the youth had uploaded a video to Snapchat just before the accident.
