China train passes train right through apartment building in congested city (video)
In the densely populated city of Chongqing in South Eastern China, authorities have found a way to break through the clutter and make space for a much needed train line – they built it right through a building!
Baffling as that may sound, this is indeed a reality in the ‘Mountain City’. The city is chock-a-block with people – home to 49 million people in just 31000 square miles.
To make room for the train in such a crowded place, authorities needed to demolish a block of apartments. To spare residents from that, they came up with a novel alternative – the train will go right through a hole in the building.
The railway station is between the 6th and 8th floors, and residents can take the Chongqing Rail Transit No.2 right from their building in their very own Libiza station.
What of the deafening noises that trains normally generate, you ask? Fear not -that has also been taken care of. Noise reducing technology mask the noise of the train, so much so that it appears to residents like the gentle hum of a dishwasher – a noise that swiftly fades in the background.
This seems like a very impressive model for the usually densely populated cities in South Asia as well, and has taken the internet by storm. However, only time will tell whether this endeavour will be a success that can be replicated, especially when it comes to factors such as structural stability.
