Elephant rescued after getting trapped in slush- 3rd incident in Karnataka (video)
Yet another incident of a wild elephant caught in dried out rivers has struck drought-hit Karnataka.
The jumbo came out of the forest for a drink in a river near Chamrajanagar, reported News9.
However, the slippery mud in the river did not offer the animal enough resistance to pull itself out. It stood entrapped for hours and cried pitifully.
This was until the local villagers took notice and alerted the forest department. The forest department hauled the animal out with a pulley. It rested on the banks for a while, and then returned to the forest by itself, apparently unscathed.
The first such incident that happened in December last year did not end so happily – the trapped elephant had died.
The forest officials, however, had managed to rescue another elephant that got stuck in the mud in January.
The dried out canals and rivers are not only proving a challenge for the villagers, but it turns out that these gentle giants are being tormented by them regularly as well.
