Indian-origin teen strangled mother in USA– community in shock
Arnav Uppalapati, 17, has been arrested last Thursday night at Cary in North Carolina for strangling his mother to death.
He would be charged as an adult, and if found guilty, he faces life imprisonment, say media reports.
On December 17, 2015, emergency responders were alerted by Arnav through a 911 call. They arrived to find his mother, Nalini Tellaprolu on the floor of her garage.
There was a plastic bag on her head, while her feet were propped up on the back seat of the car. She was bruised and scratched all over. The autopsy found minor blunt force trauma injuries, as well as fractured cartilage in her neck.
Arnav said that he had last seen his mother at dinner the earlier night. His father, Babu Uppalapati, was out of town on a business trip.
Nalini Tellaprolu had failed to activate the security system of the plush house, which was unusual. There were no evidences of forced entry into the property, reports News Observer.
Police have not disclosed how they zeroed in on the teenager’s role in his mother’s murder. However, they have revealed that they still do not have a cause or motive for the alleged matricide.
The local Indian fraternity, as well as the community at large, is now grappling with the shock of the arrest
