Odd guests: Mulayam, Akhilesh share stage with Modi, Amit Shah at Adityanath swearing (video)
Despite electoral acrimony, Indian political rivals can still share good personal rapport.
That is good news for democracy.
Yogi Adityanath took oath as UP CM before a massive gathering in Lucknow on Sunday. The star of the event was Modi, who had won the election for BJP singlehandedly.
After swearing in, he went to the stage greeting the new CM, his ministers and other BJP leaders.
Amit Shah seems to have ushered in Mulayam Singh Yadav on the stage to meet Modi. Mulayam and Modi shared a handshake, smiles and even whispers.
Then Amit Shah also called Akhilesh to the stage, who joined his father and Modi.
Akhilesh was not as comfortable as Mulayam with the new company. He waited patiently as Mulayam caught up with old friends in BJP and even raised hands with the new Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya.
In February 2015, Modi had flown to Saifai to bless the wedding of Mulayam’s grandnephew Tej Pratap Yadav and Lalu Prasad Yadav's youngest daughter.
Both Mulayam and Lalu had welcomed him with immense personal warmth.
