Uber car rams into petrol pump, bursts into flames – passenger and driver alive (video)
Surveillance images on late Monday night in Seattle captured a Uber SUV ramming into a petrol pump and bursting into flames.
The SUV, a 2007 Nissan X-Terra had a passenger inside when it lost control.
Witnesses said it had first hit a Honda Accord, pushing it off the road. The Honda hit a tree and split into half. The grievously injured 35-year-old driver was trapped inside. He was later rescued and taken to hospital.
The SUV, however, continued to zoom ahead. It went flying over a curb through a parking lot and landed at a Shell station. Then, it passed two pumps unscathed but hit the third one at full momentum.
The video captures the ball of fire that emerged at the clash. Firefighters reached the spot and doused the fire immediately.
In a rare stroke of luck, both the driver and the 40-year-old passenger suffered only minor injuries. The driver has been tested for blood alcohol, but the results are not known yet.
Witnesses say that the SUV appeared to have a deflated tyre. After trying to brake it once, the driver had completely lost control of the vehicle, reports Komonews.
Uber spokesperson Tracey Breeden said that they would assist Seattle police in every way with the investigation. She also confirmed that the driver has now been removed from Uber’s service.
