College set up by Yogi Adityanath has Muslim principal – says no discrimination
The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath is known to be a firebrand Hindutva advocate.
However, a college founded by him in nearby Uttaranchal in 1999 has a Muslim principal.
Principal Aftab Ahmad told the Times of India that the Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath Degree College strives towards the ideals of humanity and tolerance, and is committed to provide the best education to its 150 mostly women students.
There is no other degree college in Bithyani district – this institution is therefore a godsend to the impoverished families who cannot send their children all the way to Rishikesh.
The college was affiliated to HNB Garhwal University in 2005, and employs NET qualified teachers.
Recently, it was taken under the ambit of the BJP government as an aided institution – something that has given rise to dreams of better infrastructure amidst the students and staff. Post graduation courses in Arts is in the works already.
Mahender Singh Bisht, Yogi’s brother and the college’s administrator says there is zero tolerance policy for discrimination in the college.
Senior teachers also added that whatever Yogi’s personal belief might be, they have no reflection in the college’s functioning.
