Sonam hints that 25-year-old marriage to Rajiv Rai ended on bitter note

Sonam, the yesteryear star, had a head start in Bollywood – but she left all of that when she was just eighteen years old to get married and settle down with director Rajiv Rai. However, in a recent interview with SpotBoye, the former heartthrob revealed that all was not well in their twenty five year long marriage, even much before it ended – the only reason she stayed put in the marriage was her son, Gaurav. While Sonam stayed in Switzerland, Rajiv would be in Mumbai, trying to club a film together.

The distance between them grew so vast that Rajiv was nowhere to be seen in times of need during the upbringing of their only son – Gaurav.

Sonam was a single mother in spite of being married to the father of her son.

The erstwhile actress revealed that after the divorce, she had not spoken to, or heard from her former husband, and she has no plans to change the status quo. Her son, Gaurav, however meets and talks with his father whenever the latter is in town, which is not much.

Currently in Mumbai because of the work of her second husband orthopaedic surgeon Murali Poduval, Sonam concedes that her days of starring in conventional Bollywood roles are over, but she is open to meaty interesting roles.

Her wedding to Dr. Poduval was an intimate affair, with even families of both sides excluded from him, but she lauds him as a great husband and father – she would not have it any other way.
