Police have tracked the identity of the car that ran over two labourers in Rajasthan’s Kota district on May 2nd.

It belongs to an assistant conservator of forests posted there named Jai Singh.

The offending car has been discovered based on CCTV footage accessed on Wednesday and also eyewitness accounts, revealed Sub-Inspector (Traffic) Ramdayal Nagar.

Footage shows a Skoda car ramming into a cycle shortly after midnight, sending both the rider and the man in the pillion up in the air, reports Hindustan Times.

The car did not stop to assist to the injured, and sped off.

The pillion rider Ravi Kumar (32) died on the spot while 70 year old Anwar Hossein succumbed to his injuries in a hospital two days later. At the time of the accident, they were returning from a wedding in Nayapura.

Since it did not have number plates, it was initially difficult to nab the culprits. The car would soon be confiscated from the service centre it is at now.

However, the driver of the car at the time of the accident could not be ascertained from the video – even eyewitnesses were not able to provide much assistance in this.

A notice would be served to the car owner to get further details, but Jai Singh refused to accept that he owns a car. He said that his son who works in the tourism sector in Pushkar had a car, not him.

A case has been lodged against unidentified drivers for rash driving and culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
