A 30 year old woman from Jaipur in Rajasthan has accused her parents of hiring contract killers to end her husband’s life – the couple had married against the wishes of the woman’s parents.

Mamata Chaudhury had fallen in love with 28 year old Amit Nayyar, an engineer from Kerala, who lived in her neighbourhood, reports NDTV.

Her parents, Jats from Rajasthan, were opposed to the match citing caste differences. The young couple gave no heed to their outdated notions and tied the knot. They settled down in Jaipur, where Nayyar worked as a civil engineer in a private firm.

Even after the marriage, Mamata’s parents tried to persuade her to walk out, but she resisted vehemently.

Mamata was six months pregnant when her parents came visiting for the first time on Wednesday and asked about Amit.

Hoping for a reconciliation, the couple invited them in and arranged for tea. As they were sitting around for tea, two men barged into the room and tried to force Mamata to leave with them.

As she resisted, they fired four rounds at Amit. He received bullet injuries in his neck and chest and died on the way to hospital due to excessive bleeding.

Mamata’s father Jeevan Ram Chaudhury and her mother are absconding now.

Such heinous cases of casteism are on the rise now – a woman in Telengana committed suicide after two attempts after her parents abducted her from her house and made her husband go missing.
