A car entered the sidewalk in Times Square, New York, and drove over 23 pedestrians on Thursday.

A young woman was killed and others were injured during the carnage unleashed by the Honda Accord.

Early media reports suspected the attack was a terror strike following the pattern of using vehicles as weapons in Europe.

But the police ruled out terror angle saying the driver of the Honda, Richard Rojas, 26, had a history of arrests for drunken driving.

Rojas was under the influence of drugs when he drove his car  over pedestrians. He reportedly said he wanted to provoke the police to kill him.
