India seems to have boarded the online payment bandwagon completely - most of us have got used to seeing small type vegetable and fruit sellers offering digital payment services.

However, the latest to join the party is a much shadier occupation -pimps in and around Hyderabad.

Recent crackdowns by the city police on online prostitution rackets has revealed the elaborate payment set ups of these honey traps to evade the cash crunch brought on by demonetisation.

Ordinarily, the pimps offer point of sale machines to swipe credit or debit cards, reports Deccan Chronicle. PayTM payments have also caught on in popularity.

To evade law enforcers, some adopt a more circuitous route. Customers are directed to transfer the money to account numbers in different cities. Once the money reaches, the account holder, who is a money mule, takes it out of an ATM and the money later changes hands.

These digital payments options are offered mostly to old customers, while the newer ones have to shell out cash till they prove their reliability.

In the past one year, police have captured over 50 pimps from various locations. They used to bring in women from Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Delhi and Pune depending on demand. The initial contact with customers and train and hotel bookings used to occur through closed websites.

The city police's main goal is to rescue the women and nab the organisers, then followed by tracking the money trail.
