Plus-sized Mumbai woman does yoga on YouTube - unfazed by vile critics (video)

Thirty four year old Dolly Singh is an unlikely YouTube sensation - she rocks yoga poses on her channel and is an inspiration to many, even though she does not fit into the skinny yoga teacher stereotype. Much as she has received love and admiration from women around the world, her most prominent detractors have been men from her own country.

Vile Indian men have trolled her videos, calling her a fat blob, an elephant and a bear.

But Singh is not one to give up. She continued her yoga exploits on the internet and is on her way to shatter myths that equate fitness with thinness.

Singh had always been overweight - she first took up running with a trainer after her doctor suggested she lose weight following an ankle sprain four years ago.

However, running did not cut it for her and the media professional turned to yoga, something she had never tried before.

Others in the yoga studio were shocked by the flexibility and stamina showed by a 'fat' student.

While Singh decided yoga was her calling, she opted for doing it at home by learning through video tutorials instead of continuing at the studio.

Why? The Mumbai based Singh laughed as she recounted to NDTV how difficult it was for her yoga teacher to relate to the struggles of a large bodied woman - the instructor just could not wrap her head around the fact that something like a Halasana could choke a big busted person like Singh, if not done with utmost care.

As she practiced at home, she took videos to better herself. Later, she started uploading these videos on YouTube, opening the floodgates of adulation and body shaming in equal measures.
