Twenty passengers and their driver escaped with their lives after their bus was dragged down a mountain slope by a landslide.

A heart-stopping video shot by onlookers captured the dramatic incident near Bageshwar in Uttarkhand at about 7.30 am on 5th August.

The footage shows the bus gliding down the slide for considerable distance and coming to a halt after hitting a tree.

The private bus belonging to Khumaon Mandal Owners Union was reportedly ferrying passengers to Almora. As it approached its destination, it had to cross a particular turning on the road called Rakholipodi bend.

As the driver took the bus across this bend, a landslide started from the elevated parts of the slope on the right side of the bus.

A few alert passengers got off the vehicle, but about 20 of them stayed put thinking the slide had stalled.  But the landslide gained momentum and swept down the slope along with the bus.

The passengers were rescued by the amazed onlookers.
