A pro-Dravidian group shocked Chennai when they tried to tie holy threads to pigs on the road.

The incident took place in Royapettah in Chennai when the volunteers of Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhagam (TPDK) brought 4 pigs near the AIADMK headquarters and tried to tie holy threads as a protest against the Brahmin ideology and casteism.

The festival, called adorning poonool to pigs, consists of tying poonool (holy thread) to pigs on the day of Aavani Aavitam, a day Brahmins consider very sacred. They aim to bring down the poonool wearing Brahmins who consider themselves high and mighty, according to the Dravidians, reports India Today.

TPDK released the pigs onto the streets in spite of the hundreds of cops stationed in Royapettah. They were then forced to detain volunteers as shown in some videos shot by onlookers.
