A story of the love and devotion of a real life couple circulating in social media can put any Bollywood potboiler to shame.

When Jai first met Sunitha, they were only in Class 12. Even though he immediately felt a bond with her, they were young enough for most people to dismiss his love as a crush.

Sure enough, though the two talked and bonded more in the course of their last school year, it did not lead to a relationship.

After two and a half years, Sunitha contacted Jai to wish him on his birthday, and he instinctively knew that she was the love of his life.

However, a heart rending twist of movie proportions awaited the couple.

As Sunitha was driving home to meet her mother one weekend, a truck rammed into her car, reports The India Feed.

Sunitha's face was dragged along the road through the car window for quite a distance.

When Jai heard the news, he rushed to hospital thinking it to be of some minor injury. But what he saw stunned him and he could not stop his tears.

Sunitha's pretty face was completely mangled. Even ten corrective surgeries could not hide the devastation left by the accident.

Jai went back home and all he could think of was their effortless bonding in school and soon, he was convinced that come what may, she was the woman for him.

He came back the next day and proposed a relationship to Sunitha.

She was shocked but wanted some time to rebuild herself mentally and physically. Moreover, she was afraid of a relationship built on sympathy.

Jai stuck to his guns and fought against societal norms for the sake of his girl. His father supported him fully, but his mother was not convinced. He tenaciously made his mother see his love for the girl, and she ultimately consented.

Finally, a year later, Sunitha gifted him three roses on his birthday and asked him to marry her.

After a wedding of much pomp and grandeur, the couple are now the proud parents of two young children.
