A school teacher in Lucknow was suspended after she thrashed a class three student for not standing up when she called his name during a roll call on Wednesday.

Police have booked the teacher, Retika V John, over the incident at St. John Vianney School after the child’s father lodged a complaint.

A shocking video footage from the class room’s CCCTV camera shows the raging teacher slapping the boy repeatedly with both her hands. She pauses, scolds, drags him by his tie and starts slapping all over again.

She had allegedly slapped the boy as many as 40 times in a span of three minutes.

The boy’s parents were alarmed after he went home from school with a swollen face. As he was not willing to talk about it, they spoke to his classmates who said that the teacher had slapped him mercilessly.

The parents complained to the school principal, who went through the CCTV footage and found that the teacher had indeed behaved inhumanly with the child.

Retika told the principal that she got angry when the child ignored her attendance call.

The boy, who was sitting in the first row, said he failed to respond to the teacher as he was engrossed in drawing, reports PTI.

Though Retika offered her apologies, the school management suspended her immediately.

Brijesh Rai, station officer of PGI police station, said, “An FIR has been registered against the teacher for voluntarily causing hurt.”
