When Brazilian football star Neymar transferred from Barcelona to Paris St.Germain, he became the costliest player on earth, earning a reported 196 million pounds in a 5 year span.

However, all is not well in the life of the darling of the football world.

Neymar has recently been left heartbroken by his girlfriend of five years, Bruna Marquezin.

Twenty one year old Bruna is a Brazilian soap opera star and she seems to be coping much better after the breakup than her ex-beau, reports The Sun.

Neymar, who turned twenty five this year, had always made it clear that Bruna was the love of his life. He even attempted to propose marriage to her twice before, but was talked out of it by friends and family. He dreamt of the couple becoming the next David and Victoria Beckham.

The footballer's social media profiles were filled with pictures of the couple, while Bruna's were relatively clear of any mention of him. As a friend put it, the passion in the two about each other was just not at the same temperature.

Bruna, whose career is just starting, felt it was too early for her to settle down.

One of the strongest reasons behind the split was rumoured to be Neymar's extreme clinginess and over possessiveness.

He is also excessively close to his family. Not only are the faces of his mother and sister tattooed on him, but Neymar's father has the last word on any of his son's affairs, be it personal or professional. Neymar reportedlyagreed to his transfer from Barcelona was only to please his father.

Neymar himself confessed that when it came to his life, his father was the 'boss'.

A friend mentioned that it would be difficult for any girl to adapt to such surroundings.

The final straw for the relationship was a 'romantic' trip to South Africa where his entire family tagged along.

When Neymar asked Bruna whether she wanted to be in his life, her tepid answer was the final nail in the coffin.

When asked about the split, the football star commented that it had been on amicable terms, and he only had the best of wishes in his heart for his ex-beau.
